Filters
- Generation
- The species debut/origin generation, Gen 1 Kanto through Gen 9 Paldea. A later form location does not change this field.
- Type
- All or one of the 18 bundled types. When both controls are specific, a species must satisfy both choices.
- Pool count
- The candidate number is visible beside the dial and updates when a control changes. A zero-count pool stops before random selection and offers Reset filters.
03
Fair selection
Every species in the filtered pool has the same chance to win. The dial shows a readable sample, while selection uses the complete pool.
04
Data and limits
- Local snapshot
- The wheel reads the bundled 1,025-species PokéAPI snapshot, so core selection works without a live API call.
- Optional sprite
- The image is an enhancement. If the external sprite request fails or is turned off, the text winner remains complete.

FAQ
How does the Pokemon Wheel choose a winner?
The local pool is sorted by National Dex number, the dial shows a small duplicate-free sample, and every species in the full pool has the same chance to become the winner. The pointer animation only shows the chosen destination.
What do the Generation and Type filters mean?
Generation means the species debut generation, from Gen 1 Kanto through Gen 9 Paldea. Generation and Type are each single-select, and choosing both keeps only the intersection.
What happens when a filter has no candidates?
The pool count updates immediately and the wheel shows an empty state. Choose Reset filters to return to the complete local pool.
Are the Pokémon sprites required?
No. Sprites are an optional enhancement loaded from the existing external sprite URLs. A blocked or failed image leaves the winner name, Dex number, type, and filter summary available as text.
